Childhood friends David and Arnaldo are two sides of the same coin—David wants to remain a virgin until he finds the woman he will love for the rest of his life, while Arnaldo revels in his own promiscuity. After the Cuban Revolution, the two friends leave the countryside to study in Havana. Before they depart, Arnaldo has a vision in which the Virgin of Copper tells him to take care of David and ensure he loses his virginity before he turns 17, or else he will fall into a deep depression that will end in suicide.
